Abstract

The roots of the term "doping" are controversial. According to some researchers, the word "doping" comes from "dop", which means, in the Boer dialect, a strong drink used as a stimulant in religious festivals2. Other scholars, however, claim that "doping" derives from the English verb "to dope," which means "administering a stimulant," or the English word "dope," meaning "stimulating substance." According to the definition adopted by the World Anti-Doping Code (CMAD), doping "is the occurrence of one or more violation of the anti-doping rules established in Article 2.1 to Article 2.8 of the World Anti-Doping Code." (Article 1, World Anti-Doping Code)
