Abstract

The aim of this article is to provide an accurate analysis of the concept of the state of nature in Hobbes’s political philosophy. It will address some of the central concepts related to the state of nature: natural equality and liberty and their dilemmas, the state of war of all against all, and the role of passions and reason as instruments for the abandonment of the state of nature and as foundations of the social contract that will make possible the creation of the State and life in society.
