Abstract

This work provides an analysis of the evolution of International Law, emphasizing the role played by Hugo Grotius. We begin with a brief reflection on how power, politics, war, and peace have shaped society throughout history. Next, we delve into the intriguing case of the Santa Catarina ship (between the years 1603 and 1604), which was crucial in formulating ideas that demonstrate Grotius's influence in laying the groundwork for legal coordination among States in the international arena.
